I was a victim of burglary in ——-. The man and woman took 150 blank checks, which Lance wrote over 2,000 dollars in checks to numerous stores. They also stole my jewelery. I had very little jewlery to start with, but my GREAT grandmothers and grandmothers wedding rings were part of what they took. Neither of these rings are valued over 600 dollars although the sentimental value is NOT replacable. They turned my bedroom, closets, kitchen, and bathroom upside down. I was devistated to come home to my door still pried open from then using a crow bar to force their way in. Not to mention my two children standing there next to me observing my shock to the crime. We were so devistated. We had to move out in less than a week because my children where terrified they would come back there again. I had moving expenses, break my lease and also somehow learn to cope with family treasures NEVER being returned. I am sure they sold the rings for very little money on the street and have no clue how I still would give anything to have the rings back. To my understanding ___________recieved 30 years as an obitual criminal (thank God) although he will probably get out and do it again. He had just gotten out of prison in November of 1999 and in less than 6 months returned to destroy innocent lives do support his self and his habbits. My understanding he was found in a motel room with tons of stolen items and meth and needles. I understand that is very addicting although NO EXCUSS to steal from innocent people. In a world like that they can steal from corrupt people already in that cycle if they choose to lead that type of life. Maybe if CROOKS stole from each other there would be less crooks because they would take each other out. The law is to easy on these repeat offenders. When a person gets locked up in prison it should be time to wake up and realize there is help in here and this place is not where they want to live. Also they do not have to pay insurance cost for the help. There ARE NO EXCUSES for repeat offenders. Crime HURTS to many, the wounds are very deep and emotionally difficult to work through. I would love to have him reply with true remorse for the loose he cause me and my family. Thanks for letting me open up and get this off my chest. T -my grandparents symbol of LOVE

Editor’s note:

The Community Justice Center believes the key to unlocking the problems with our justice system is restoring control and voices to victims. A victim tends to get lost in the shuffle of police, lawyers, judges and court rooms. Their questions don’t get answered and their story becomes nothing but yesterday’s crime.

Offenders become nothing but criminals doing time on holiday. Most never take full responsibility for the damage they have done. They don’t get a chance to feel the victim’s pain and try to make amends, even if that is all they can do. The victim has the key to getting across to offenders. Offenders need to understand the extreme gravity of the harm they put upon the victim and the community.

A major part of the Community Justice Center (CJC) is elevating victims voices so they are heard all while restoring a clear sense of control back. Through CJC victims begin the healing process and offenders know true accountability while learning about the true harm they caused real individuals and communities because of their actions.
